Arizona Adaptive Water Sports is excited to provide adaptive water sports in our state. We are very grateful for volunteers who make this program such a success!
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
We couldn’t provide the water sport events without the selfless contributions of our volunteers. We are very grateful for our volunteers who make this program such a success!
Basic Responsibilities
Code of Conduct: No firearms, no drugs or alcohol usage permitted, no leaving children without supervision, no pets permitted.
Volunteers are required to follow and enforce the code of conduct.
Volunteers will report to the designated captain or coordinator. Be flexible but report any issue to the captains or coordinators.
Report any damaged or unsafe equipment.
Report any unsafe activity of participants, families, or volunteers.
Volunteer Positions
Public Relations Team:
You don’t even need to get wet! Positions include photographers, videographers, social media promotions, sending out press releases and getting the story out of what is happening on the water with interviewing athletes, family, and volunteers.
Guest Assistance Team:
Parking Assistant:
The parking assistant volunteer will be driving a golf cart. They will meet the guests at their vehicles and assist in transferring the athlete and their personal items to the cart then driving them to the dock. Also assist with picking up guests at the dock and driving them to their vehicle.
Valid driver’s license required.
Participant/Athlete Registration check in:
This is a fun and exciting day to enjoy watersports and the beautiful outdoors. This volunteer position is the first impression to everyone arriving for this event. Volunteers will greet and guide the guests through the registration process.
All volunteers, athletes and families will be pre-registered. Volunteers working registration will need to verify that the paperwork has been completed and signed. Additionally, validate payment has been received or collect it.
Prepare the swag bags for each athlete and distribute the appropriate wrist band.
Provide the athlete with their participant wrist band and a swag bag. Athletes will then be directed to be fitted for a life jacket.
Fit each athlete and all children under 12 with a life jacket (volunteers will be instructed on how to fit the jackets).
Keep the registration area clean and clear for accessibility.
Sell T-shirts to interested buyers during the day.
Bonus activity: DJ for the day! The stereo is located at the registration area, so the volunteers will get to set the soundtrack for the event!
Concierge:
Buddy for the day! Concierge can help with mobility assistance to get the athlete to the activity as scheduled as well as ride with them and assist with picture taking.
Assist solo athletes or anyone requiring extra assistance with getting to their activities on time and in the correct location.
Help the athlete to stay hydrated and sun safe throughout the event.
Dock Assistant:
Wear your fitness tracker and get your steps in!
Assist with transferring all athletes and family members into and out of the boats.
Maintain supplies for the boats including making sure they have plenty of water, ice and sunscreen on board.
Runner for special equipment that needs to be used in a different boat.
Validate the boats are displaying the correct banners (training provided). Keep the bathrooms and dock area clean.
Set up and take down the decorations on the docks.
Kayaking Assistant:
If you enjoy kayaking, this is a fun activity! The athlete can kayak with a volunteer (tandem) or choose to go solo with the volunteer in a separate kayak.
Verify life jacket is on properly.
Assist athletes with getting in and out of the kayak.
Assist athletes with paddling.
Waterskiing Team:
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the skiers and other boats for unsafe conditions. Be prepared to activate the quick release of the rope to protect the athlete. Remind athletes to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Equipment Manager:
Manage (get and put away) the adaptive equipment for the athlete. The manager will be trained in special safety equipment.
Water Starter:
This position will require the volunteer to be in the water to help the athlete get into the adaptive equipment. Will be supporting the athlete in the water until the boat takes off. Must be able to swim.
Boat Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
Wakeboarding Team:
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the athlete and other boats for unsafe conditions. Be prepared to alert the driver to any safety concerns. Help manage the equipment. Remind athletes to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Water Starter:
This position will require the volunteer to be in the water to help the athlete get into the adaptive equipment. Will be supporting the athlete in the water until the boat takes off. Must be able to swim.
Instructor/Trainer:
Good level of wakeboarding knowledge required. Will be on the boat and in the water to coach the athlete in waterboarding.
Boat Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
Wake surfing Team:
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the athlete and other boats for unsafe conditions. Be prepared to alert the driver to any safety concerns. Help manage the equipment. Remind athletes to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Water Starter:
This position will require the volunteer to be in the water to help the athlete get into the adaptive equipment. Will be supporting the athlete in the water until the boat takes off. Must be able to swim.
Instructor/Trainer:
Good level of wake surfing knowledge required. Will be on the boat and in the water to coach the athlete in wake surfing.
Boat Driver:

Boating Team:
Leisurely boating around the lake!
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the lake for other boats or unsafe conditions. Be prepared to alert the driver to any safety concerns. Remind boat riders to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Boat Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
Tubing Positions:
Tubing boat pulls a tube with athletes and family around the lake.
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the tubers and lake for other boats or unsafe conditions. Be prepared to alert the driver to any safety concerns. Run the flag on the boat. Run the boat radio. Assist with getting boat to the dock and throwing the rope to the dock assistants. Remind tubers and riders to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Boat Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
Fishing Team:
Pursuing the big catch!
Boat Assistant:
Diligently monitor the lake for other boats or unsafe conditions. Be prepared to alert the driver to any safety concerns. Remind riders to drink water, use sunscreen, make sure seat belts are off and life jackets are on correctly.
Fishing Assistant:
If you love to be on the water with a pole in the water this is for you. Assist athletes with getting on and off the boat safely. Assist athletes with getting equipment and setting it up to fish. Assist with baiting the hook, casting the line, using the net to snag the catch. A fishing assistant may also have to function as the boat assistant.
Boat Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
Safety Team:
Specialty skills required.
Jumper:
Coaches and assists the athletes in the water especially in the situation when a skier falls. Volunteer must be in good physical condition and be a good swimmer. Training is required.
Jumper in Training:
Training for a jumper position.
Jet Ski Driver:
This is a skilled position that requires the volunteer to be Boater Safety Certified and CPR/1st Aid Certified. If you are interested, please reach out to Jo Crawford.
End of Day Team:
Prefect position if you can come later in the day and help with teardown and loading the AAWS trailer.
